TRAVEL PLAN
Berkeley Academy is a Gold STARs Accredited Primary School, achieving the highest level of STARS accreditation consistently since 2012. This award is only given to schools that demonstrate the highest level of participation and commitment to active travel and safer travel activities.
At Berkeley, we encourage all our pupils to travel to school in a healthy and sustainable way, be that walking, scooting or cycling, and we have plenty of storage racks where bikes and scooters can be locked for the day.
The safety of our children is very important to us, and we offer a number of Cycle training sessions throughout the year. These range from sessions for children wanting to learn to cycle without stabilizers, through to those who are starting to ride on the road independently. Last year a number of our pupils completed a Cycle Coach Programme and progressed in their cycling skills.
Throughout the year we hold a variety of events to celebrate sustainable travel, including Walk to School Week and a 7 Day Challenge. Last year, we also hosted a number of exciting competitions as Bling your Bike or Scooter and a Micro Scooter Competition. Our Junior Travel Ambassadors were actively involved in promoting these initiatives and they delivered a whole school assembly on Road Safety, highlighting the importance of safe travel.
